MADISON, Conn., February 19, 2021 | The Children’s Educational Foundation of Connecticut, Inc. (CEO), a nonprofit organization that supports equal access to quality education, is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships to qualified residents of Waterbury, Connecticut.

“We are absolutely ecstatic to be able to extend scholarship opportunities to the families of Waterbury during these difficult times,” said Lew Andrews, founder and president of CEO. “Our board of directors and passionate donors stepped up to make it happen for the 2021-22 school year.”

Since 1995, when former Senator and current honorary board member Joseph Lieberman endorsed the newly formed organization, CEO has provided well over 10,000 scholarships to low-income students in grades K-8, totaling over $21 million. In 2020-21, CEO awarded 364 scholarships, $799,800 in total, to students in Bridgeport, East Hartford, Hartford, and New Haven. The current retention rate of CEO Scholars and their siblings entering the program is over 90%.

“By adding Waterbury, and continuing to explore opportunities to broaden eligibility for scholarships, CEO is working on all fronts to become a part of the fabric of education in Connecticut, bridge the growing education gap, and better the future of children in the State,” said Carolanne Marquis, executive director.

Both new and renewal applications for the 2021-22 school year may be submitted starting March 1, 2021. New students may apply between the grades of K-5. Once in the program, families and their students may continue to apply and receive funding through the 8th grade, as long as they continue to qualify.
